The exhibition of Islamic art in the Hermitage.18.02.2017

Unique exhibition of Islamic art was opened in the State Hermitage Museum of St. Petersburg.

February 14 exhibits were placed on the 3rd floor of the Winter Palace. All of them were created in the XIII century under the rule of the Islamic state called Mamluk Sultanate. The state was located on the territory of Egypt and the Arabian Peninsula with the cities of Medina and Mecca.

This exhibition has a wide variety of Islamic art samples: linen and silk fabrics, decorated with colorful drawings of painting; precious metal objects with thin enamel paintings; bronzes; lamps covered with gold leaf with rare ornaments and inlays of ivory. Each exhibit was made at the time of the dawn of the Islamic art of the XIII century.
