FSB gave 19 ancient icons to the Russian Museum.13.12.2015
FSB officers sent 19 items of religious painting of the last quarter of XVIII - early XIX centuries to the Russian Museum. This is a part of large batch of ancient icons that more than 10 years ago Georgian citizen tried to smuggle out of Russia. The smuggler was arrested at the customs office in Pulkovo and cultural treasures were seized. The Ministry of Culture has decided to give the icons of particular artistic value to the museum. At the end of October 2015, 91 icons from the same batch of contraband were given to St. Petersburg diocese. Some of them can be seen in the operating churches in the city.
